The Animation Art show is an annual exhibition and auction taking place in Dublin in aid of Irish children's charities.

Batfink!

My Photoshop crashed and would not recover. So I had to go through an uninstall and then re-install and then, as if by magic, my cintiq went in a huff and would no longer play ball with PS! So it had to be uninstalled and so-forth.

Once all back up and running, I gave it a little test which I include here.

All digital.

Bed Time stories

I managed to kill 2 birds with one stone here. I was asked to do a sketch for ICN today, it manages to fit in with the bedtime story theme as well.

Here’s a little nod to Maurice Sendak. I’m definitely a little late to “Where the Wild Things Are” but still it left quite an impact all the same.

2nd theme - Carrier Pigeon

There has been talk of raising a farm of pigeons and training them to do what they [probably] do best.

Narcissus

This is inspired by story of Narcissus.  Echo was in love with Narcissus but all she could do was repeat his last words.  She cursed him and when he later comes upon a pool he falls in love with his own reflection.  Narcissus pines over his own reflection and as he dies he turns into the narcissus flower.

Here the flowers hang over the waters edge and are reflected in their own dark grave.

Nyx

In Greek mythology, Nyx is the deity of the night.

Croseus Consults the Oracle at Delphi

"If you cross the river, a great empire will be destroyed."

Here I just wanted to try colouring using blocks of see-through colour stacked on top of each other to create the palette and tones.

John's Mythology post

Helen of Troy, inspired by the artwork of Akihiko Yoshida.

Oceanus, this Titan was often depicted as having the upper body of a muscular man with a long beard and horns (often represented as the claws of a crab) and the lower body of a serpent.

Ciaran's Mythology Post

Mythology- Achilles Heel
Two pieces I did inspired by two of my favourite artists Kate Beaton and Scott Benson.
Kate Beaton does a hilarious webcomic and Scott Benson is an After Effects animator.

Shaun's First Post

I never really sat down to draw trees before so I gave a few images a go with an ancient greek touch!

I then took these apart in After Effects to get an idea of how they might look onscreen. I decided to make it look as though it was mapped on an old decorated vase and maybe incorporate some Greek vase designs into the style. Here is an early test (I've only blocked out the movement of Demeter so far using a black shape):

'Greek Mythology' - kicking off the new year with a random theme.  Let's get some art up here!
